American Andy Potts led out of the swim in a time of 22:14, with Brazil’s Igor Amorelli (23:05), New Zealand’s Callum Millward (24:35), Griffin (24:38) and others chasing. Potts enjoyed his lead out front through most of the bike, but he suffered a mechanical and lost significant time. Amorelli took over the lead and held a 3:18 gap over Griffin to start the run. Griffin quickly cut into the Brazilian’s advantage and earned the front spot before the midpoint of the run. He used a 1:16:44 run split to earn the 3:53:46 victory.
